Bridgette on hold

by Andrew on August 28, 2012 at 3:25 pm

I recently switched to comicpress from straight wordpress. I’m hoping that I can build a better platform for Bridgette and other comics that I hope to work on. I uploaded the new comics, but it says the directories are missing. With Toc-Tic I followed a set of instructions and everything went fine. Following the same instructions I hit a snag. The plugin Theme companion no longer exists. Frump.net (Theme Companions creator) says use Jetpack. Jetpack doesn’t seem to have options for making directories.

I’m thoroughly stumped. I already E-mailed two “more-techsavy-than me” budds, but I’m putting out the call here on the site. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Adding directories for comicpress.

I will reward anyone who can help me out. Alcohol or art you pick

Big Girl on Campus

The webcomic that never was.

Back in 1999 I was working as a desk monkey at my College’s tech lab. This is back before the school linked all the dorm rooms into a campus wide network. I spent my working hours exploring the primordial ooze that was the internet. I also discovered webcomics. Sabrina Online and Sluggy Freelance. About the same time I was propositioned to draw a comic for the school newspaper. Big Girl on Campus was born. A slice of life comic strip about  college. The strips I submitted were declined and they asked me to do a political comic. I hate politics especially college politics. I had a Geocities account, so I gave it a shot.

Crude drawing, bad comedy, and crude drawing. I can at least say I was there. Big Girl on Campus ran online from early 2000 to mid late 2003. I only finished 52 of the strips I had planned. Now that I’m looking at the strips again, I get the urge to go back and at least redo the dialogue so it’s legible. But no. I refuse to backtrack on my work. Whatever it was that I screwed up the first time, don’t screw up with the next comic.

PAINTING MYSELF AGAINST A STORMWALL (PT. 2)

by Andrew on August 21, 2012 at 4:49 pm

A lot has happened since my last post on the Stormwall project. My favorite part of painting Cygnar is painting the blues. I use Games workshop paints, which work well enough for me. The pallet I use is four shades of blue; Regal Blue, Enchanted Blue, Hawk Turquoise, and Ice Blue.

I Start by painting a base coat of Regal Blue. With GW paints I always add water to both the paint I’m actually painting with and also to the container. Makes the paint coat smoother and also lengthens the life of the paint. Mostly I’m washing the base coat on, I want the low spots to be as dark as possible.

Then I paint the high areas with Enchanted Blue. This makes shadows deeper and makes details pop out.

Next up I dry brush Hawk Turquoise. This blends the blues out and adds mild highlights to edges and high spots. I use the word “dry” loosely with this step. I’m mostly looking to add a lighter shade of blue.

Last step is to dry brush Ice Blue. This is what makes details really pop. I try to use directed strokes, taking into account light direction. Open areas I use a back-n-forth motion with a paint that s so dry that it takes a while to build up color. some times I’ll switch to a smaller brush and do spot dry brushing of skull white to high profile edges and details.

Repeat for all blue surfaces.

Next up.

Why I can’t paint white

If I were a Monkey, I’d sit on a milk crate too.

Saw a Monkey sitting on a milk crate this weekend. Of course it was while I was visiting the zoo, so such things as seeing Monkeys is not out of the ordinary. Others in his cage were doing typical monkey things. Games of tree top grab ass, penile displays, and catch the urine stream. This little dude was sitting back, out of the way, just feeling the earth tilt. Seemed like the right thing to do.

Me and said Monkey

Friday mind dump

First off, I would like to thank everyone who participated in my “Stay@homecon” the last two weeks. I should do this again, it was my best convention yet. I will be pulling the E-bay store front down Sunday night. so if you want anything, nows the time. I will be setting up a storefront once I figure how to do it.

Second: My new project, Toc-Tic, is currently trucking right along. Every Thursday a new page in an ongoing steampunk clockwork series is posted and life is good. www.toc-tic.com Chapter one wraps up on Aug 30.

School starts next week. My son starts First grade. I’m only nervous about him taking the bus home. Otherwise I know he’ll do fine. School also means more zone out time to draw comics. YAY!!!

I finished penciling chapter one of Toc-Tic and once I get that Inked I’ll start on a five week stretch of “Bridgette’s belly”, and then the last installment of “The Shift Manager”. I have my work cut out for me. I’ll keep posting here about current projects and any other side projects that take up blog space.

END MIND DUMPINGS…
